The Happiest Days of Your Life By John Dighton |
|
It’s 1948,
the war has ended and life begins to return to normality – well it
tries! In peaceful rural Hampshire, Hillary Hall Boarding School for Boys is about to find that true turmoil is yet to begin! The Ministry of Devacuation makes a clerical error and billets St. Swithins School from Sussex with them. The Staff and Headmaster agree a plan to house the incoming Boys and Masters. Only problem is St. Swithins is a Girls Boarding School. The action takes place in the Staff Common Room of Hillary Hall School. Battle lines are drawn as the staff and pupils try to get on with each other until the Ministry can be made to realise their mistake. But can they succeed before parents of both schools visit? Parents who have said they do not want the influence of the opposite sex on their respective sons and daughters? Can all the staff and pupils hide the truth as the confusion increases? What will the Ministry do next? Some people might remember this fast paced and immensely funny farce by John Dighton as a hilarious 1950's film starring Joyce Grenfield as the love struck gym teacher, Alistair Sym and Margaret Rutherford as the Heads of the respective Schools, an updated and modified version of the play first performed at the Apollo Theatre, London in March 1948. |
